Report: Russia, Iran close to signing heavy water pact
MOSCOW, Jul 25 (PRIME) -- Moscow and Tehran are close to signing an agreement on imports of 40 tonnes of heavy water to Russia, news agency IRNA reported on Monday, citing Ali Akbar Salehi, head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran.
“The last steps to sell 40 tonnes of heavy water produced in Iran to Russia have been made, the agreement will soon be signed,” Salehi said.
Iran has a limit of heavy water allowed to be stored inside the country at 130 tonnes because the use of heavy water is closely associated with the development of the technology of a heavy water reactor. Iran is at the initial stage of heavy water sales to Europe, Salehi said.
